Minister of the Environment of Japan visits Fiji and Tuvalu
According to a press release issued from the Japanese embassy in Fiji. Minister of the Environment, the Honorable Yuriko Koike (Ms.), will visit Fiji and Tuvalu as a special envoy of the Prime Minister of Japan. Minister Koike was appointed as Minister of the Environment and Minister in charge of global environmental problems in September 2003. Since then, Minister Koike has actively engaged herself in tackling global environment problems.
Minister Koike will visit Tuvalu from 13 to 14 August, 2006. In Tuvalu, Minister Koike will make a call on the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of Tuvalu. She will visit outlying islands to witness the impact of global warming on Tuvalu and also visit a local primary school to observe the situation of environmental education in Tuvalu. During her visit to Tuvalu, Minister Koike will attend the handing-over ceremonies for the “Project for Improvement of Women’s Handicraft Centre” and “Project for Water Supply for Funafuti Island” which are funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) Programme.
Minister Koike will be in Fiji from 14 to 15 August, 2006 and will meet with the Prime Minister of the Fiji Islands, the Honorable Laisenia Qarase, the Foreign Minister the Honorable Kaliopate Tavola and the Environment Minister the Honorable Poseci Bune. She will also visit the University of South Pacific.
