Government talks with Sovereign Venture, Air Fiji and Air Pacific.

Tuvalu Ship Registry is contributing largely to the economy of the country with the registration of cargo ships from its office in Singapore.
Minister of Communication and Transport, Works and Energy Hon. Taukelina Finekaso and his delegation including Acting Secretary of the Ministry Tapugao Falefou and Deputy Ship Registrar Fred Resture were invited by the Sovereign Venture Company that runs the Tuvalu Ship Registry in Singapore.
This invitation was specially extended because it is a new government and so the new minister can see how the registry works and how it contributes to Tuvalu’s economy. Minister was reportedly happy with the performance put up by Sovereign Venture on behalf of Tuvalu.
The Memorandum of Agreement signed between Tuvalu and Sovereign Venture Company three years ago only agreed that the company should pay Tuvalu a minimum of at least 100 thousand US dollars a year. It has paid Tuvalu much more than this with almost two hundred thousand in the first year, almost three hundred thousand in the second year and this year it had already paid out more than three hundred thousand to the government.
In their talks with Sovereign Venture in Singapore, Hon. Minister Taukelina Finekaso and his delegation requested if the company can pay for a clerk to work together with the ship registrar. They also requested if Sovereign Venture can assist Tuvalu by funding a representative to the biannual meetings of the International Maritime Organisation IMO, of which Tuvalu is a member and had not attended the previous meetings due to financial strains.
The company agreed to both requests, and both positions of ship registrar and clerk are now being arranged by the ministry.
