Parents and Teachers Association meeting

Parents and teachers of Nauti Primary School met yesterday at the school campus for their end of year meeting.

Among issues discussed at the meeting were pupils’ hygiene and a new school rule was introduced where each pupil has to take to school a bottle of water to wash hands after morning tea, a tea-towel to dry hands on, and a little bowl to put his or her food on.

It was also stated that starting next year each teacher will inspect that all pupils have the following on a daily basis.

Parents were also asked to discourage their children from sharing other children’s food and drinks, and also to provide their children with shoes, to protect them from worm diseases and other diseases that they are vulnerable to.

Head Teacher of the school Temukisa Hauma thanked all parents, Funafuti Kaupule and everybody for their invaluable support throughout the school year.

Tuvalu Family Health Association represented by Coordinator Emily Koepke, Program Officer Taufala Nia and Sister Filoiala Vete, also had a chance to talk to mothers who were present at the meeting about the services they can do for families and youths.

Safe motherhood - which is the care each woman requires and needs to know in her childbearing days, was also explained to mothers by Sister Vete from Princess Margaret Hospital in collaboration with TuFHA, and a discussion on the advantages of talking about sensitive sexual health issues in the family.

Lunch was provided for parents by TuFHA and teachers of the school.
