Tuvalu Athletics Association looks for money

Because of the financial strains that almost everybody and every organization is going through in Tuvalu, the Tuvalu Athletics Association has taken to fundraising again and hence held their first fundraising activity today November 2nd, 2006.
This was a door-to-door fundraising where athletes went to every office and every house on the capital asking for donations of money.
According to the Association’s Vice-President Nakibae Kitiseni, the money will go towards funding the association’s equipment such as stop watches, and other necessities that will help run the association.
It will also help purchase the athletes’ running shoes which will make their training more realistic.
Mr Kitiseni also states that the athletes are now being trained on their fitness and running skills, and have been for a while. He told Tuvalu news he hopes the athletes will be ready for the Oceania Athletics Championship in the beginning of December in Samoa.
He appreciates the assistance of family members for releasing the athletes to attend training sessions and also pleads with them and the public to please dig into their pockets when the athletes knock on their doors today.
