Tuvalu attends Regional CSO Forum
By Semi Malaki
The Pacific Regional Civil Society Organization Forum 2006 that was held in Nadi, Fiji recently was well attended by non-government organizations from the region.
Tuvalu was represented by the coordinator of TANGO-Annie Homasi.
She says that the main agenda of the forum was to discus issues raised by the Pacific CSOs for consideration at the Leaders Forum that was also held in Fiji last month.
She adds that one of the recommendations to Pacific CSOs is that the national umbrella NGOs are supported to work with national civil society groups, to organize an annual national CSO Forum that will focus on monitoring and reporting on the performance of the Pacific Plan.
There were also several general recommendations to call on Pacific Island Forum States to ensure there are opportunities for CSOs to develop more links with the Pacific Plan Action Committee and the Forum Officials Committee at both national and regional levels.
This one week forum meeting was fully funded by the Pacific Island Association of Non-government Organizations.
