Tuvalu Council of Leaders Summit for Auckland Region

By Yvette D’Unienville

The Tuvalu Council of Leaders Summit for the Auckland Region was organized just like the Parliament here in Tuvalu, speaker to Parliament Hon Kamuta Latasi told Tuvalu news.

He says the meeting comprised of one leader from each island community of Tuvalu in New Zealand with four supporting delegates at the rear.

In an interview with Tuvalu news, Rt. Hon Latasi says issues of the summit concentrated on developments for the welfare of Tuvaluans in New Zealand.

The issues took into account efforts for young Tuvaluans to abstain from breaching the law, keep the harmony, be devoted to their jobs, and for children to be well educated to ensure they have the best out of life.

Also discussed was the idea to have permanent staff for the Tuvalu New Zealand Community and for the summit to be maintained as an annual event for discussing issues that are crucial to Tuvaluans.

The one day meeting on 18th November 2006 was officially closed by Rt. Hon Latasi.
