Tuvaluan doing very well in weightlifting
Two or three gold medals maybe in Logona Esau’s reach in the weightlifting’s 69kg category at the next South Pacific Games in Samoa next year, according to his coach if Mr. Esau remains in the Oceania Weightlifting Training Center.
Esau, the Tuvalu native who is undertaking a weightlifting scholarship in Samoa has been reported to have had a great deal of improvement, resulting in the extension of his scholarship by the Australia’s ASP.
The scholarship that ended on October 6th was extended to the end of 2007.
According to Tuvalu sports officer Mr. Robert Laupula, Mr Logona Esau came first in the 69 KG Category at the Oceania Weightlifting Training Center in Samoa. His snatch was 105 and his clean and jerk is 140, beating other weightlifters in the same category.
Logona is amongst the three weightlifters that were awarded with a Bridging Scholarship, which is a follow up of the ASP 2006 Scholarship. The trio will continue to undertake another scholarship, which is the Pacific Sport Champion and will also compete in the high level scholarship.
Logona is the first Tuvaluan to undertake such a scholarship in the weightlifting sport.
