Consultations for curriculum framework come to an end
By Silafaga Lalua
A curriculum framework consultation with island communities is drawing to a close on Funafuti, and being carried out by the education department.
Reports from the Secretary of Education Mr Solofa Uota says the consultations have been carried out in all the seven island communities on Funafuti excepting Funafuti community alone whose consultation will be done tonight at its respective Falekaupule.
The objective of the consultations Mr Uota says is to create a curriculum framework, for teachers to use when they teach pupils at pre-school, primary school and secondary school level.
A curriculum framework is a detailed list of subjects and activities to be taught in schools and is a teachers’ guide to teaching pupils in school.
Involved in these consultations are the Director of Education, 4 senior staff from the education headquarter plus teachers from Motufoua Secondary School.
Conscious of cost cutting measures, Mr Uota stressed that the Motufoua teachers, five in total, took turns in assisting with the consultations.
He mentioned that the consultation will also be carried out on the outer islands in the near future.
