Journalists from the Asia-Pacific region visit and experience Indonesia

The Indonesian government hosted a two week long visit program for journalists from ASEAN and Pacific Island Forum countries in Indonesia from the 30th of November to the 6th of December, 2006.

Silafaga Lalua who represented Tuvalu Media told Tuvalu news the program was to create awareness amongst people in the region about Indonesia and its great cultural diversity.

The country’s most prominent tourism icon ? Bali island ? is tightening all its security at all ports following the bombing of one of its nightclubs in 2002.

The island suffered a decrease in revenue from tourists then but has since picked up and tourism is again flourishing for Balinese and Indonesia as a whole.

The Indonesian community is reassuring the world and the Pacific that it is a safe country, and provided one abides with all the rules and regulations, no trouble can be experienced while in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s Ambassador based in Suva, Fiji said Indonesia has plans to establish diplomatic ties with Tuvalu next year.

Ms Lalua’s involvement in the Journalist Visit Program was fully funded by the Indonesian government.
