Liquor Licensing Committee met with applicants
By Silafaga Lalua
The Liquor Licensing Committee yesterday met with license applicants from within the country.
Acting Chairman of the Committee Seve Lausaveve told Tuvalu news that 14 people from Funafuti and the outer islands applied to either have their liquor licenses renewed or obtain new ones for the year 2007.
In the meeting with the applicants, the committee discussed its report on the premises that the applicants propose to sell the alcoholic drinks from. The committee also assessed their requests before the decision to issue their licenses is made.
To have safe storage room for the alcoholic drinks as well as available toilets for customers, are just some of the criteria the applicants need to satisfy before a license can be issued.
An alcoholic drink license lasts for a period of one year, and it can be suspended before the year ends if the committee discovers a breach of the license terms by the applicants.
The Liquor Licensing Committee consists of 3 officials from the government and 2 from non-governmental organizations.
