Scholarship awardees last year disappointing
By Silafaga Lalua
A handful of first year scholarship awardees last year have had their awards terminated while second and third year students did a lot better.
According to the Permanent Secretary of Education and Sports Solofa Uota in comparison to results from last year, this lot has done worse.
Uota told Tuvalu news that students’ focus has changed dramatically since they were at University and part of the problem might be the freedom they have acquired, and they had lost the initiative and stamina to stay focused on why they left home in the first place.
Reports further said that the very bright students from high school and the Augmented Foundation Programme the previous year, took a dramatic change in their performance at University last year.
Uota explained that homesickness and the change of environment might have also contributed to the disappointing performance in these students.
Tuvalu news discovered that each scholarship awardee this year is being given a copy of the training policy ? on the conditions and major provisions of the policy, so they can constantly be reminded of what will happen if they fail to satisfy requirements of the policy.
