TANGO visit to ROC Ambassador
By Silafaga Lalua
In the September 21st 2006 TANGO executive meeting, it resolved to send a delegation to discuss issues of interest to TANGO and the NGO community with the Ambassador of Taiwan.
Earlier this month the delegation that comprised the president of TANGO, 2 member representatives, the Coordinator and a staff implemented just that.
Two of the issues raised to His Excellency Daniel Liao was a request for a technical assistant and financial and logistic support for an NGO study tour.
Tuvalu news was informed that with the increasing membership of over 100% in the last five years, TANGO is experiencing staffing difficulties in addressing community needs for development projects.
A Project Development Officer is being employed now to assist the communities mainly with small scale projects developments and while some NGO/CBO have benefited from the trainings and required less of staff time, the majority is still in need of TANGO’s assistance.
Providing a technical person, under Taiwan funding assistance, in this area will surely add value to community development and the services provided by TANGO.
The other issue was request for financial and logistic support for an NGO study tour.
This tour is to enhance creativeness and acquire skills by visiting similar and like-minded non-government and community based organizations in Taiwan.
This will surely provide for future collaborations and networking between our NGO communities.
Ambassador Liao in return said he will discuss the issues with Taipei but both are highly possible.
