By Yvette D’Unienville

The Youth Empowerment Fund which is under the Department of Youth has helped a lot of youths of the nation in the area of education.

In the meantime the Department of Youth is waiting for this year’s fund given there is a small portion left from the past year.

Petueli Noa the Youth Officer told Tuvalu news that the fund is granted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community to assist in the developments of youths in Tuvalu.

In the past years, the fund received was 28 thousand dollars and later declined to 16 thousand dollars.

100 percent of the fund was used to help out youths in their education.

A lot of Youths have taken extension courses at the University of the South Pacific- Tuvalu Center with the assistance of the fund.

Noa explained that the fund only pays 50 percent of the tuition fee while the other 50 percent is paid for by the Youth and if he successfully passes the course she or he will get a refund of the 50 percent she paid.

This doesn't include course materials.

There is also a special committee that selects applications for the fund.
