Formal merging of ERPD and Budget Division

By Yvette D’Unienville

The Ministry of Finance Economic Planning and Industries in its circular on Friday 23rd February has informed that the merging of the Economic Research and Policy division (ERPD) and the Budget Division has been endorsed and formalized by the government.

Report from the Ministry states, the government upon formalizing the merging also agreed to name the two merged divisions as the Planning and Budget Department.

Tuvalu news learnt that the merging of the two divisions is primarily aimed at improving government's economic and financial management.

Tuvalu news also gathered that the formalizing of this merging by government was long overdue given that the two divisions, ERPD and the Budget division, were practically merged towards the end of 2004 after a series of major reforms within the Ministry of Finance during that period.

The main roles of the new planning and Budget department will be basically concentrates on economic and social planning for the government of Tuvalu, and the management of Government's annual budget process including the production of the annual budget as well as its monitoring.
