Passenger from the Central Islands

By Lina Malaki

Passengers who arrived from the central islands on the recent trip of MV Manufolau have raised their concerns on the lightings of the wharf.

Report says that when they arrived that night, the wharf was so dark that they could barely see their luggage and the way to the passengers’ shelter.

A child who arrived with his parents on that trip but cannot see properly at night, fell into the sea.

Director of the Marine Department, Mr Uale Sinapati says requests were made before to a senior staff of the Tuvalu Electricity Corporation, Mr Brownie Manao on the problem with the lights at the wharf.

He also says they have just made another request to the Tuvalu Electricity Corporation (TEC) to assist on the matter.

General Manager of TEC, Mafalu Lotolua states he is not aware of any requests made by the Marine Department to their office on the matter except for the only request for (TEC) workers to remove the lamp post at the wharf that had become rusty.

The Supervisor in the Electrical Department in the Public Works Department, Mr Taukiei Lesa also comments there were also no requests made from the Marine Department on the problem.
