PSC moves to better the public service

By Silafaga Lalua

The Public Service Commission PSC had made a move to better the service provided by civil servants to the public.

During the last week a Professor of Medicine from the Fiji School of Medicine FSM, was in the country on the invitation of the PSC, to see and give advice on the medical service delivered by medical professionals and to recommend further training on specific areas that need to be improved.

Professor Robert Mould is responsible for training all medical students and also specializes in post graduate specialists at the institution from Pacific countries at FSM.

He said that the government of Tuvalu thought it useful to have someone like him come in and dialogue with doctors.

Olioliga Iosua, Ag. Secretary for Personnel and Training also said that Professor Mould came to dialogue and identify areas that need improvement to better the service delivered to the public and moreover the training needs required by the Departments.

She said that because PSC looks at the quality of the entire public service, and therefore wants civil servants to do their work well and better yet to give the best service they can to the public.

Professor Mould wanted to stress that doctors in Tuvalu are doing a very good job under very difficult situations, and the Tuvalu community should be grateful for that.

He would also like to remind the Tuvalu community that it will be very pleasant to focus on the professionals’ successes rather than criticize them.

Professor Mould left the country yesterday, and his trip to Tuvalu was sponsored by the government of Tuvalu.
