TNPF send reminder letters to all employers

By Silafaga Lalua

31% of employers on Funafuti did not pay their employees provident fund contributions last year.

All employers in the country had been sent letters of reminders by the Tuvalu National Provident Fund (TNPF) as of last month.

TNPF Inspector, Manraoi Vaaia told Tuvalu News that employers were reminded of the Act that states they have to pay all employees’ provident fund (PF) contributions every month.

Every employee that is paid twenty dollars or more a in a fortnight is entitled to a PF to which they, and the employer pay 10% each.

Vaaia stated that employers usually justify their not paying with not enough money in their establishment for PF, to which he commented that it will not be accepted. Each employer should have a planned budget allocation for PF contribution every financial year.

A solution to the problem suggested by Vaaia is for all employers to keep a pay roll for their employees so that the inspector can cross check it during his visits.

He urges all employers to abide by the law and be punctual with their contributions.
