The Civil Societies and Non-Governmental Organizations in Tuvalu will broaden their awareness on human rights and HIV/AIDS soon after the four days training workshop that runs throughout this week.

This training workshop was conducted by the Tuvalu National Council of Women with the assistance of RRRT/UNDP.

The Legal Right Training Officer-Saini Malalau Seluka told Tuvalu News the workshop will train the participants as how to tackle the HIV/AIDS problem using a human rights approach.

The participants will review and discuss and debate topical human rights. And also to and critically examine how the current laws perpetuate stigma and discrimination and develop strategies to change laws and promote a supportive legal environment for the reduction of HIV transmission.

In these four days the participants will further examine Tuvalu laws like the Bill of Rights and understand its implications on HIV/AIDS prevention work.

Ms Seluka believes that after this training the civil societies and NGOs will understand their rights and try to create a safe environment for people living with HIV/AIDS.
