Healthy eating and living promoted

By Silafaga Lalua

Healthy living and healthy eating habits for students in primary and secondary school levels are paramount in a training carried out recently.

School supervisor within the education department Maseiga Osema was in Nagoya, Japan for a month and a half, undergoing a School Health Promotion group training course.

The JICA funded training course encourages participants observe the situation in Japan schools and expectantly adopt the school health systems or health syllabuses in local schools.

Osema told Tuvalu news that the Tuvalu school syllabus has a health feature but it needs more consistent practical work in order to promote healthy living in students.

In her action plan already in place, Mrs Osema plans to conduct awareness workshops for people who contribute to the lives of students, regular health checks and physical education in schools as well as in-servicing of teachers in schools.

For the long term, Osema looks at developing a national policy on school health promotion.

The action plan implementation is as early as from next month.
