Tuvalu is the newest International Olympic Committee member.

It was greatly anticipated last week while the IOC session gathered in Guatemala City that Tuvalu Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee be formally recognised, but it has been finalized that as of Friday July 6th 2007 Tuvalu is the newest member to the big Olympic Movement.

TASNOC General Secretary Nakibae Kitiseni told Tuvalu news that this is great news to the Association and this day will be celebrated annually from now on as the National Sports Day.

Kitiseni says he looks forward to developing sport in Tuvalu and also looks forward to working together with NOC officials from abroad.

Reports say congratulatory messages came from IOC officials, ONOC office and so far other NOCs such as Guam, FSM, Cook Islands,Tonga, Costa Rica and Samoa.

Kitiseni also said TASNOC will celebrate this soon.
