Touch team out of the game
By Silafaga Lalua
Boys in the Tuvalu touch squad have left the competition in high spirits.
At their quarter final match against Papua New Guinea team yesterday afternoon the boys were so sure they would win it until the final three minutes.
Coach Fapaiaga Pita told Tuvalu news up until the final few minutes both teams had 4 tries each but mishaps from the boys, their opponent and the referees made the opponent able to score two tries and beat them.
Nevertheless coach Pita is very happy with his boys’ overall performance at this SPG, saying that their opponents’ tries were “giveaways from their end while their tries were genuinely earned.”
Although not professionals in the game, as most of them work full time jobs the boys of Tuvalu touch displayed true sportsmanship in all the matches they played this SPG. For future games regionally coach would like to maintain his present team and work with them to better their fitness and skills.
He would like to thank every supporter of the game and his team back home for their support throughout the many months they trained in adding that it would be great if the facilities improve so players can also improve their performance.
Player Tioti Toafa was named best try scorer and best player for this SPG, scoring 5 tries in total and proving himself on the field in all the matches.
