The Tuvalu Media Corporation will be represented at a journalist visit group in China

By Yvette D'Unienville

The Tuvalu Media Corporation is taking up the invitation from The People’s Republic of China (PRC) to be part of the Joint Press Delegation to China.

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) will be organising a “Joint Press Delegation to China from Pacific Island Countries” to be held late October/ early November this year.

General Manager Melali Taape says, such programmes tend to be eye openers and resourceful for journalists, they would learn about affairs in other countries and compare them with situations in Tuvalu and is also a chance to improve their skills in the profession.

Diana Semi of the News Department has been nominated by the Tuvalu Media Corporation to join the pool of journalists.

Similar media visits were held in September 2003, September 2005 and Yvette D'Unienville of the News Department was amongst the Pacific Press Delegates.

She says eventhough the programme was intensive, is always exciting to learn about governments in other countries, their economy, media , their way of living and for China, it was preparation for the Olympic 2008, one of which was the construction of the "Bird's Nest', name for China's National stadium which is is yet to be completed.

The invitation, through PRC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is aimed at ‘furthering the bilateral exchanges between China and Pacific Island Countries in the field of news media’.
China is host to the Olympic 2008 and Tuvalu also aims to participate.
