Minister of Communication, Transport and Tourism Hon Taukelina Finekaso revealed this during his input to the debate on the Appropriation Bill and the Development Fund Estimates Motion this second day of the budget session of the Parliament 2008.
He stated that since 2004 when the registry first operated, the revenue collected each year always exceeded the previous year’s takings except that of 2007 when it decreased.
As of September this year, the registry had collected AUD$688, 000.
The 2009 Appropriation Bill 2008 being debated on, asks for more than AUD$32 million to meet the expenditure by the government in the financial year 2009 as detailed in the National Budget for 2009.

According to Viliami Fakava, Senior Advisor of Pacific Plant Imports from the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, he came to Tuvalu to make final discussions with key people who would be involved in the export of the coconut apple to New Zealand.
Tuvalu news learnt that other Pacific islands are currently exporting green and brown coconuts to New Zealand and Tuvalu will be the first island to export the ripe coconut apple.
Fakava says the only problem this trade might face will be the consistency of the market, taking into consideration the poor Tuvalu agricultural land.
The coconut apple will either be exported fresh in vacuum packed bags or cooked for air or boat transport, depending on the volume and the demand for it.
Tuvalu news gathered that the market targets the Tuvalu community in New Zealand, and comments that he was very happy to learn that the local market for coconut products is very high.
Mr. Fakava held talks with the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and other key people in the government during the week for this final stage of the two year negotiations.

Director of Education Katalina Taloka told Tuvalu news that Anaseini Raivoce, Director of the South Pacific Board of Education Assessment in Fiji, is conducting the workshop that is to end tomorrow.
Taloka says the workshop will look at the teacher competency book that contains the six modules that aim at the professional development of teachers, the servicing of teachers, assessment and classroom management and others.
Also included in the modules is the professional development of untrained teachers that will lead to their being certified to teach.
The four day workshop began last Friday and will end tomorrow, and targets education department staff and some teachers from Nauti Primary School.
Tuvalu news learnt that participants of this workshop will train teachers from other primary schools when nationwide workshops are run during school holidays.

]]> Established on the first of October 1987 with the help of donor partners like England, New Zealand and Australia, the Fund has earned an impressive 65.7 million dollars, at a rate of 6.2 % per annum for 20 years as at June 30th 2007.Secretary of the Fund Talavai Iona told Tuvalu news that from the 65.7 million, 24.1 has gone into the government’s budget, 29.2 has been reinvested while the left over 12.4 million dollars remains in the Fund’s reserve account.
He says the Fund’s birthday will be celebrated together with the 29th Anniversary of the country’s independence on Monday next week.
He says the profile of the Fund these past 20 years will be launched on Monday morning after the parade and during a brunch to be hosted by the government.
The Fund’s current donor partners include New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and Japan but there also a few potential contributors to the Fund that Iona says have all been invited to join in celebrations of the Fund’s birthday.
Iona further says that on Monday night, the Tuvalu Trust Fund chairman Minister of finance Hon Lotoala Metia will host a dinner in commemoration of the Fund’s 20th birthday.

Tuvalu, as member of the South pacific Regional Environmental Programme has been receiving financial benefit each year for implementing environment activities.
Acting Director of Environment, Enate Tauaa seemed satisfied with the amount of financial assistances SPREP provided Tuvalu so far.
He said SPREP's financial assistance to Tuvalu has been increasing in the later years.
The assistance covered costs of countries activities associated with environment benefits such as in-country trainings, and country's participation at meetings and workshops sponsored by SPREP consultancy costs.
The report was one of the items on the agenda of the 18th SPREP Meeting mid which was underway last week.
Tauaa represented Tuvalu to the SREP annual General Meeting is usually held in Spetember each year to asses SPREP activities that have been implemented in member countries and to discuss financial matters.
The meeting approved the budget for SREPS Programme next year.

]]>The case of the six year old girl-child who was allegedly raped on the island of Niutao is now in the hands of Police.
]]> Police Commissioner Motulu Pedro said, the incident happened a week ago around the time when the island celebrated it's annual day- Te Aso ote Setema.The victim has been trasferred to the Funafuti Hospital by the Health Department on the recent trip of the vessel to Niutao
Dr Stephen Homasi explains, the hospital needs to do a thorough check on the victim's condition and injuries in order to provide a full report in case a legal case needs to be filed for a court hearing.
He added that beside providing a medical report , the health department also has to check the victim for sexual transmitted infections, especially HIV AIDS as had been the result in most rape cases.
The suspect according to the Police Commisioner is in the custody of Police here in the capital.
